Study Abroad
The study abroad was a consortium of 4 universities, four professors (English, History, Psychology and Art) and 40 students in Montipulciano, Italy. We had field trips to Rome, Florence, Sienna, Bologna, and with local artisans. Students had 2 classes per day for 4 weeks with field trips on Thursdays and Fridays. The photo gallery highlights the field trips and the classroom learning. The second gallery includes final projects For most of the students in art classes this was their first opportunity to work with art materials since middle school.
The project was a research project in art making starting with a them of "culture" and a concept map, researching artists, styles, experimenting with media, reflecting and making choices. Very similar to a British GCSE art exam. They could choose the topic, media, etc to make the artwork that best represented culture from their experience in Italy and in Class. They also kept a sketchbook of all of their experimenting, annotations and research.
